In life we have moments that can feel overwhelming. Literally telling yourself over and over again “I don’t know”. Wondering if we will ever get out of the situation we’re in. Wondering if this is it. That feeling can feel heavy, dark, and honestly even suffocating. Your mind can be spinning at a fast pace making it difficult to think forward. Making it difficult to be positive or think about being positive. Wondering about how you’re going to pay your bills, feed your kids, keep your business afloat, all while your limited on resources and lacking the motivation to make a difference. It feels like all odds are against you, including yourself. You begin to think about your past: “I never had anything to begin with,” “I grew up in a poor home,” or “my parents never cared about me.”
John 16:33 ”In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
The Bible says we will have trouble. Meaning trouble is unavoidable. Those bills will press you. The kids will sometimes give you a hard time. Those plans you have may not go as smoothly as you may have excepted, and believe me that is ok. It’s ok. Set backs are necessary. It helps us recalibrate. It helps us remember the tenacity we had to begin in the first place.
I’ve learned in life many times during difficult times that I have to step back and just smile. Do things that make me laugh. Put myself in environments that remind me I can get through this. For some there are simple things like a ball game, a walk at your favorite park, a date night, church service, or a trip.
Regardless of what you are going through, not knowing whether you’re going to survive this season or not, remember you can get through it. Like John 16:33 says “I have overcome the world”. You also have what it takes to overcome your circumstances.
