Swimming against the current.

“The man who is swimming against the stream knows the stream of it” -Woodrow Wilson

There were two swimmers swimming in the strong waves of water. One swimmer swam more effective and further than the other. After a long day of swimming one swimmer asked the stronger swimmer “You must be a great swimmer, how did you manage to swim so effectively in the strong waves the way you did”? The other swimmer  answer and said “well it is not that I am a really great swimmer. I just used the very pressure of the waves to push me in the direction I was headed instead of swimming against it”. This is the very same principle that helped me understand what my worship towards God is.

Many times we tend to believe that we are not worthy or clean enough to worship. Truth is worship is really not about our position but all about God’s position. He is God the Maker of all things. He is Holy. Perhaps, understanding that all things belong to him including our will if we chose to surrender it to Him. We have to understand that it is not about us not being worthy to worship, but us not being worthy is why we worship.

Taking ourselves out of the equation is the most important step of what true and effective worship is. In other words God is who matters and it is in Him where we are to worship. John 4:23 says the Father seeks worshippers that will worship Him in Spirit and in Truth. This verse is vital to our understanding to what worship is. What Jesus is explaining is that we do not to be in a physical place or condition to worship, but in His truth we are able to worship in Spirit, which is God himself. That means that the only thing we have to please God is God’s word and our obedience to it.

Do we need to be perfect to worship God? No. Do we have to wait to be in a certain level to worship God? No. Worship is a natural reaction from our obedience towards God. As you obey God and accept His will for you, you will automatically detach yourself from your own desires and unworthiness to live in His desires.

Begin your process today by surrendering completely to Him, His will, and telling Him “God without You I am hopeless and weak. I rather live in obedience to you than to drown in my own understanding”.
